I'm Back! & With a New Plan {Herbalife}

September 25, 2013

It has sure been a while since my last blog post! I definitely got off track for a while... Since my last post I have:
  • Tried out "Whole-Foods Plant Based" Diet. If you don't know what that is watch Forks Over Knives
  •  Got a new job at the Hyatt Regency Irvine :)
  •  Moved in with Nathan (my boyfriend) to Costa Mesa
  • Got a dog! His name is Avo :)

  •  Lost motivation for working out and eating healthy...
So, I have decided to come back to blogging and have started a new lifestyle change!

HERBALIFE

Have you heard of it? Probably. I've known about it for a few years now, a few of my friends have been distributors/nutrition coaches and some have just tried it on their own, but I was always a little skeptical about it. Mostly, I just felt that it was really expensive! But a few weeks ago, I just felt like CRAP, my body felt heavy, I was always cranky, and I just could not put up with it any more! I knew I had to do something drastic about it. So I decided to get on this Herbalife grind!

Nathan's family friend John is a nutrition coach at Wellness Works in Costa Mesa so he started me up on the Quick Start program to get this Herbalife thing on the go. With everything from my QuickStart program plus the additional supplements I ordered, I was ready to go!

All my goodies! (Multivitamin not pictured)

To start my first month, I got:

  • (2) Canisters of Meal Replacement Shake (Each 30 Servings)
  • (1) Protein Mix (to add to my smoothies)
  • (1) Aloe Solution
  • (1) Multivitamin
  • (1) Cell Activator
  • (1) Herbal Tea Concentrate
One of my main concerns was the taste of the shakes, because I've had some Protein Shakes that tasted like BOOOOTY! BUT, much to my surprise, the shakes taste AMAZINNGG! No chalky taste at all! Each Shake has about 25g of Protein, and definitely fill you up since they are so thick and creamy! Since I mix it with the Protein Mix, all you need is Water, Ice, and a blender! Yum! The 2 flavors I have for this month are Vanilla & Cookies & Cream. I definitely want to try new flavors though!

HEALTH NUMBERS

Another great thing about being part of the Wellness Works is that they have this really cool scale that takes all your health numbers! It made me a little sad seeing my numbers because I'm definitely not where I want to be:
BMI: 24.3
Weight: 132.8
Body Fat %: 29
Total Body Water %: 50.1
Muscle Mass: 90.2
Physique Rating: 5
BMR: 1334
DCI: 2198
Metabolic Age: 24
Bone Mass: 4.8
Visceral Fat: 2

But all this can do is make me more motivated to get to the numbers I want to be! Also, another great thing about starting out there was John gave me a coupon to try a FREE Smoothie, Tea, and Aloe Shot! So Nathan and I stopped by on Tuesday to get our free goodies. I tried the Mint Chocolate Chip Smoothie, oh my gooodness! SO TASTY! Let me know if you want to stop by and get your free nomz! He said I can share the coupon with my friends :)

Go get your free drinks!

SCHEDULE

So it's been about a week since I started and it has so far been great! I've been doing a lot better about drinking 1/2 my body weight in fl oz. of water and eating every few hours. My schedule on most days goes as follows:

Vegan Banana Oatmeal Pancake Recipe!

So I was snooping around on Pinterest for motivational pictures, quites, and recipes and came across one for Vegan Pancakes. Now, it was pretty late at night, so I just got REALLY excited about my breakfast the next morning, I could hardly sleep!

I found this recipe from Colouful Palate and I'm so excited to see what other kinds of healthy recipes I'll find on this blog!

Vegan Banana Oatmeal Pancakes
Makes about 8 good-size pancakes (depends on size)

Ingredients:
-1 1/4 cup old fashioned oats (I just used quick oats because that's all I had..)
-1/2 cup organic whole wheat flour ( I got mine at Trader Joe's!)
-2 tsp. baking powder
-1/2 tsp. sea salt
-1 1/2 cup soy milk
-2 ripe bananas

Step 1: Blend all the ingredients together in a blender EXCEPT the bananas!
Step 2: Add in the bananas and blend until smooth
Step 3: lightly oil your pan with olive oil
Step 4: pour batter on pan, wait till 1 side makes those little bubbles and flip!
Step 5: pop them on a plate, add some peanut butter or a touch of agave and eat up!

These are soooo good! I can't believe there are no eggs in them! And they are so healthy! Try them for breakfast today and let me know if you added anything to make yours even MORE DELICIOUS!

Nutritional Info (per pancake): Cals: 64, Fat: 1g, Sodium: 102mg, Carbs: 12g, Fibre: 1g, Sugar: 2.5g, Protein: 2g (this information taken from the original blog)

New Year, New Goals! Burpee Party!

Happy New Year Everyone!!!

First off, I realize I haven't written a blog post in AGES. Wow. Yeah, I've definitely been putting this off. I've been working out here and there, but definitely not the focus I had in the summer. AND I know it's cliche, but now that we've begun a new year, thought I would start back and focus!! My goal is to lose another 10lb in the next 3-4 months, and I'll definitely be trying new work outs and new diets. I want to stick to eating healthy and drinking more water and staying active. I recently did a hiking trip to a trail near by and that was really fun! It's a great exercise because there are so many rocks you need to climb up, down, across etc. Definitely will be posting more pictures of those trails once I get into it!

So I went to the gym today, and realized, once I'm actually THERE, I'm so motivated!! It's seriously the getting TO the gym part that is the hardest. I was really in the mood to burn all that holiday junk out of my system so I decided to do a BURPEE work out!! So if you're in the mood for a quick BURPEE workout here's what I did today:

BURPEE Party!
What you need:
(2) 5lb weights
(1) 8-10lb weight
YOUR FABULOUS SELF!

1. Alternating lunges with 5lb weights in both hands (15 on each leg)
2. 10 BURPEES
3. Alternating lunges with 5lb weights in both hands (15 on each leg)
4. 10 BURPEES
5. Alternating lunges with 5lb weights in both hands (15 on each leg)
5. 10 BURPEES

take a breather, drink some water!
6. Wood chops with 8-10lb weight (Basically swinging the weight above your head to inbetween your legs)
7. 10 BURPEES
8. Wood chops with 8-10lb weight
9. 10 BURPEES
10. Wood chops with 8-10lb weight
11. 10 BURPEES!

Needless to say, I had a good sweat! I did some other weights and cardio a long with that, but I was definitely just getting back into the gym again. The holidays were SOOO hard to avoid being lazy and eating deliciously not-so-good-for-you food. So back to it I guess! I really want to stay focus this time... I've been distracted lately, but that's no excuse not to work hard.

Thinking about maybe doing a soup
